Pollinate Energy is a social business working to improve the lives of India's urban poor. We do this by training local entrepreneurs to sell products - such as solar lights - to urban slum residents on deferred payment plans. Pollinate Energy also educates future leaders about social entrepreneurship. We do this by bringing together Indian and Australian students and young professionals to work with us in India on challenging and complex business problems.
2. Business sustainability
Pollinate Energy is a social business, not a charity. The first year of operation in a city is funded through donations, Fellowship and Young Professional programs and grant funding. After the first year, the city is fully operational and is completely financially sustainable, meaning the business can operate for many years into the future without relying on external sources of finance.
Pollinate Energy provides services to temporary urban slum dwellers, who are neglected by other businesses, not-profits and microfinance institutions. Pollinate Energy's unique distribution model ensures that this segment of society is adequately served.
"Pollinate Energy gives me the opportunity to explore my own potential."
— Alexie Seller National Manager Business Development
"Pollinate Energy has given me the whole start up experience while understanding and improving the lives of the people in the urban slums. The responsibilities and freedom in the job role keeps me motivated to give more for the organisation."
— Dilip Kumar Senior Business Operations Officer
