Karmany: A Sanskrit word meaning “to serve through business”

Social Enterprise is a term for a financially sustainable organization that has managed to find a balance
between three vital success factors. Each of these components plays a critical role in their overall growth and sustainability.

Our confusion

Year after year, we see corporate giants topping the Fortune 100 lists as the most successful companies generating acceptable or high returns as deemed by the market. The value they bring to the society at large is unmatched - from economic growth, to livelihood, to consumer products/services, and the list can go on. Why are social enterprises not achieving the same kind of scale while continuing to focus on alleviating societal issues at the bottom of the pyramid?

Through dozens of in-depth interviews with social entrepreneurs in India, Karmany realized that a major hindrance to social enterprise's growth was a lack of talented candidates for their job openings.

Social enterprises around the world were facing the same issue: finding and filtering quality candidates.

We believe that social enterprises can help alleviate some of the world's most pressing issues. But in order to do so, they must be equipped with the strongest teams possible. The Karmany platform was developed by folks who understand what it takes to work in the sector and moreso, what it takes to attract the best talent globally.

We are passionate about creating a space that becomes the global leader for all development professionals and organizations to find and share financially stable work solving development challenges, exchange information and ideas, and drive awareness for the sector.

A Social Mission

Despite its many recent advances, India continues to face many challenges. Some examples of development issues include a lack of clean water, financial exclusion, unequal access to education, corruption and malnutrition.

The good news is that India has many resources, including a fast-growing population of young people with college degrees who are looking for challenging, fulfilling employment opportunities. Here are some amazing facts about India:

India's GDP per capita will quadruple from 2007 to 2020
In the next 3 years, 25% of the world's new workers will be Indian
2.5 million people graduate with degrees each year
We feel that if we can crack the model here,
it will not be long before we can connect this space globally.
